NHDC is a Central Sector utility and thereof Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) determines the final tariff of NHDC’s Power Stations. The CERC has approved the tariff for the period upto 31.3.2014 for both Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar Power Stations on the basis of applicable Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and Conditions of Tariff) Regulations 2009.

The CERC determines the Annual Fixed Cost (AFC) to be recovered from beneficiary (ies) for each station. As per prevailing CERC Regulations, this AFC is recoverable in the form of capacity charges & energy charges upto Design Energy. The components of tariff (AFC) are Return on Equity, Depreciation, Interest on Loan, Interest on Working Capital and O&M Expenses.

In ABT regime the generator has to generate as per the daily schedule finalized by Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC)/ State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC). The beneficiary (MPPMCL) has to draw power from Grid as per the daily schedule finalized by SLDC. Unscheduled Interchange (UI) charges shall be imposed on the constituents of the grid who deviate from the final schedule. UI rates are linked with grid frequency and are as per applicable CERC guidelines. Availability Based Tariff as ordered by CERC has been implemented w.e.f. 01.04.2007 in Madhya Pradesh.
